MERCER COLLECTON
PRIVATE COLLECTION // EDITORIAL DESIGN
The Mercer Collection brings together works by predominantly Italian artists from the 1920s to the present day, with a particular focus on Mimmo Rotella and Gio Ponti. The book was designed as a quiet counterpoint to a collection characterised by collage, décollage, drawing, painting and found imagery.
A restrained typographic structure and generous areas of white space allow the scale, texture and material differences between individual works to remain distinct. Images shift between isolated studies, pairings and full spreads, creating a varied rhythm while drawing out visual relationships across the collection.
The binding sets a densely layered work against a pale cloth spine and sharply contrasting yellow typography, bringing something more immediate and contemporary to the conventions of the private collection catalogue.
