Part archive, part altar – a handheld constellation of selves.

A limited-run zine created for writer and broadcaster Octavia Bright to accompany her book This Ragged Grace – part visual diary, part artist’s tribute. Conceived as a companion piece rather than promotional collateral, the zine offered a looser, intimate take on the book’s themes of addiction, recovery, and identity. Drawing on Octavia’s personal image archive, the design collated family photos, film stills, screenshots, and personal motifs into a vivid visual narrative – a diaristic constellation of symbols and selves.

The cover, a hyperreal still-life collage, set the tone: ripe with saturated colour and a strange, theatrical materiality. Inside, images were given space to accumulate and speak for themselves. Some spreads were tightly gridded, others more open – echoing the book’s shifts in tone and texture. The format was small and hand-held, printed on uncoated stock with a saddle stitch, reinforcing the personal, non-commercial feel. The resulting object feels somewhere between scrapbook and spellbook – a personal fragment offered up as a way in.
